The Office Assistant - Final Friday - Performance Reviews
Well, the last day of this job is here. But the blog will continue until the rug is installed in City Hall on December 1.
As part of the feedback process, you are all invited to submit a Performance Review. It is electronic, and easy to use. You will find the link under the link to 'blog'. Here is the path:

This is my job - I come to work each day and crochet. I am crocheting a rug or blanket - a metaphor for security, and in this installation, a comment on how a job can be your security, or not. The blanket is made of plastic, which provides little warmth and seems to undermine the purpose of it all! And yet, emerging from the chrysallis is something quite unexpected. You can see the art of my work. I AM doing what I REALLY want to do.
The routine has been established, along with the necessary commute to work. Judgements have been passed, both informed and uninformed. Relatonships have been built, from positions of support as well as positions of criticism. The process of thinking has begun. I have learnt a lot. Thankyou.
I look forward to your feedback.
And if I wasn't such a tough old chook, I would suck up hard, and say how 'wonderful, amazing and beautiful you all are'. But I won't. :-)
Will you miss this when it's gone?

Well, after passing you by for all these weeks I finally stopped and chatted you up! Like I say, why watch the whole TV series when you can just watch the last show?
We spoke briefly of happiness. If life is a banquet, which it is, happiness and unhappiness are simply flavors. No matter what our situation, we will have moments of rage, of uneasiness, of sorrow. We will also experience moments of ecstasy, of lightness, of pleasure. If we are engaged in all of our moments, we will exult as much in the moments of unhappiness as we will happiness. Think of it as sugar and wasabi! After the experience, be it joy or rage, we should all lick our chops, wipe our mouths on our sleeves, and go DAMN that was good!
Changing the subject, in the long run, people seeking security and people seeking freedom are no different. Neither will find it, but it's a heck of a journey, eh? We bureaucrats probably aren't as miserable as one would think, because all that money lets us go out and do cool things with ourselves. I, for one, like to wallow in the basics (wink wink nudge nudge)! Those of us with the brains and creativity will make changes and keep our lives interesting. It is a choice to be bored or miserable, happy or unhappy, no matter what our circumstances.
Have a safe trip!
Hi Todd,
Nice to read your comment. But I don't believe you. When I meet truly happy people, they aren't wallowing, and they aren't out there loudly proclaiming their happiness. They just 'are' and you can tell. Your theory sounds fine, but you haven't convinced me. All talk and no action perhaps. I do agree with your last comment though - it is ALL a choice.
ciao
